Diversity is understanding and promoting an inclusive university community. From the process of recruiting new students, faculty, and staff to welcoming new students, faculty, and staff to everyday interactions among students, faculty, and staff, we all have a part in creating a campus community where each person feels respected by and connected to the University.

The University's Office of Equity and Diversity has adopted a policy and procedures to provide students and employees, who feel that they have experienced discrimination but are uncertain as to whether a complaint is justified or whether they wish to initiate a formal complaint, the opportunity to discuss their concerns confidentially and informally with the Equity and Diversity Officer/Title VI Coordinator for prompt and equitable resolution of discrimination complaints. Complaints include concerns or complaints related to race, color, national origin, religion, sex, pregnancy, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, physical or mental disability, or covered veteran status. This policy extends to both employment by and admission to the University. The primary purpose of the Office of Equity and Diversity is to ensure that all students, faculty, and staff have an equal opportunity to participate in all aspects of University life.

The University of Tennessee is an equal employment opportunity institution. Inquiries concerning Title VI, Title IX, Section 504, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and the JVA 2002 Amendment should be directed to the Equity and Diversity Officer/Title VI Coordinator, 303 Administration, UTM, Martin, TN 38238, (731) 881-3505.
